KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Kathryn Aalto

Kathryn Aalto is a writer, designer, historian and lecturer. For the past twenty-five years, her focus has been on places where nature and culture intersect: teaching literature of nature and place, designing gardens, and writing about the natural world. She is the author of The Natural World of Winnie-the-Pooh: A Walk Through the Forest that Inspired the Hundred Acre Wood (2015) and Nature and Human Intervention (2011). As a writer, she has a special interest in the geography of childhood and literary landscapes. An experienced lecturer and speaker, she has recorded voiceovers for videos of her book and recorded a special story for National Public Radio to air in the autumn. Her book launch was at the Ashdown Forest Centre in England and the New York Public Library in the United States. She will be speaking on the natural history of the Hundred Acre Wood throughout the United States and United Kingdom in 2015-16 to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne.
