KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Catheryn Yashar

Dr. Yashar completed both an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency and a Radiation Oncology residency and so her clinical and research focus has naturally centered on breast and gynecologic cancers, especially IMRT, IGRT and brachytherapy techniques. Her surgical training can be invaluable for surgical issues, brachytherapy systems, implantation, and clinical correlation of imaging.

As the breast radiation oncologist, Dr. Yashar has active interest in techniques that limit irradiation to the normal breast and does research on single entry accelerated partial breast irradiation and high dose rate focal irradiation techniques. In gynecology the evaluation of IMRT and IGRT as treatment methods for gynecologic cancer, and image guided brachytherapy are active areas of investigation.

Dr. Yashar participates in the education of UC San Diego medical students and visiting residents interested in a career in radiation oncology. She is active in the medical school and has served as chair of several committees. She currently serves as the chief of the breast radiation oncology service, the medical director of the La Jolla radiation oncology clinic, the gynecologic oncology associate team leader, and the chair of the Moores’ cancer center cancer committee.

Dr. Yashar is active participant in the American Board of Radiology, the American Society of Radiation Oncology, and serves on the board and as a fellow of the American College of Radiation Oncology and the secretary of the American Brachytherapy Society. Dr. Yashar frequently lectures at national and international meetings covering a wide range of topics including IMRT, IGRT and brachytherapy for breast and gynecologic cancers.
